Fake uggs on ebay

December 3rd, 2011 No comments

With the popularity of internet shopping, especially around christmas time when we are searching for the cheapest products online, its often one of the first places we turn to… Ebay.

However, with Ugg boots, this is one of the last things you should do. Although over the last few years, ebay has clamped down alot of sellers of fake ugg boots, and the problem is only a fraction of what is used to be. It is is still full of uncertainty as you just dont know what you are buying.

Even though someone may have lots of positive feedback, the fact of the matter is, people just dont know when they have been sold counterfeit goods, and if they are well made, then people will just assume they are real, and leave negative feedback. You should look out for all the usual signs such as the ones I talk about in this post…  Fake Ugg Websites.

Alot of the genuine ones for sale usually have a picture of the genuine box with genuine label still on it, the most common sign of fake uggs are the ones with labels pinned onto the boots. Genuine ugg boots never come like this.

Stick to the golden rule and you should be fine, “if its too good to be true, it probably isn’t”.

How to tell fake UGG bailey button boots

September 26th, 2011 No comments

The Bailey Button version of the UGG boots are one of the most popular versions after the classic style UGG.  Although the classic UGGS are the most popular to be counterfeited, there are still loads of fake bailey button boots flooding the market aswell.

One of the most popular ways to tell if this style of boot is fake, is the button itself. All genuine boots have a button made of wood. Most fake ones have a plastic button of some sort.

As with all uggs, the fur is an important thing to look out for. Real animal fur is not prefect, by that I mean, its not perfectly smooth and manufactured. The fur used in the genuine boots has a rough, thick quality feel to it. Often fur will come away in your hands if the boots are fake, and as always, if there is a smell of chemicals/paint from the inside, it means the fur has been dyed, and cheaply dyed at that.

The boots will come in a box, there should be no bag in the box and the boots will definitely not be in a bag. No labels pinned to the boots at all. These are signs of fake boots, regardless of what style of UGG boot.

As i’ve said in all my reviews, the general quality is what to look out for, how even is the stitching? Is there any glue residue secreting from the edges? loose stitches etc?  If so…. this is a sign of poor quality fake boots.

How to spot a fake ugg cardy

September 6th, 2011 No comments

ugg cardyThe Cardy boot from Ugg Australia is one of the most popular styles and has sold millions of units.  Fake ugg cardy’s are not quite as common as the Ugg classic fakes.  Mostly with the Cardy style boot, there are loads of companies who make similar styles, who are tryin to cash in on the popularity of the boot, but there is still a problem with counterfeiting gangs creating a fake version of the Ugg australia cardy boots.

If you are looking to try to determine if a boot is fake, it’s all the usual things you have to look out for, with the designs varying, it’s more about looking for genuine quality in the materials and the quality of manufacture.  The most important things are all the common sense things to look for.  How much do they cost? Where are you buying them? If they cost £50 and a guy your dad knows can get them, then they are obviously fake.

If you are looking for specific things to look for then here are a few:

Buttons – The buttons are a kind of matt finish, and almost look like a wooden effect, they are usually the same colour as the boot, but a slightly different shade.

Button holes – The button holes on a genuine cardy boot are usually pretty tight, this is a sign of the good quality materials and build used by UGG Australia, if they are quite loose, then it’s a sign they’re not made quite as well.

Stitching – The stitching is usually very neat, tidy and tight. Any loose stiches, loose threads, or dodgy looking areas are a sign of fakes.

The sole – The sole of the replica cardys are sometimes thinner than the real ones. Also areas of glue showing around the sole is often a sure sign that its of lesser quality, not something usually seen on a genuine boot.

Fake ugg websites

September 3rd, 2011 6 comments

The majority of websites claiming to sell genuine uggs are actually selling fake ones. I recon about 90% of them are selling fake boots, ugg australia are constantly shutting websites down but they just open up another site as soon as one shuts down.

The term ugg is a registered trademark, that means that no dealer is allowed to use the word ugg in its domain name. For that reason any website that claims to be selling genuine boots with the word ugg in the domain is fake.

Some websites actually claim to be selling genuine ugg australia, some others just say things like, genuine australian made ugg boots. These are not to be mistaken for the branded make that is the popular product we are talking about here.

The only sites that sell the genuine product are the high street shops that have websites, such as Office shoes, Schuh and Jimmy Choo.

Most sites that are selling fake ugg australia boots, will be shut down within a year. You can check how old a site is by checking its Whos is records, at a website such as http://who.is/

If the site is pretty new, be suspicious of it, if everything looks above board then you can be more confident, however, there are websites selling, authentic ugg boots made in australia that have been around for a while. This comes back to my point made previously about the difference between a site claiming to be selling genuine ugg australia, or selling genuine ugg boots made in australia. They are very carefull with their wording.

Labels

One of the most common way people think of telling a fake ugg boot, is by looking at the label. In the early days of the fakes, you would look for a big middle G, in the word uGg. But unfortunately its just not that simple anymore. As with every aspect of the replica boots, they are becoming more and more like the real thing.

Likewise, it used to be that you could look at the inner label on the boot, and if it said “made in australia” then this was actually an indication that it was fake, because in actual fact, the genuine ugg australia boots are made in china, and have been for about 5 years. So I believe genuine boots actually say, made in china now.

As Deckers bring out more new styles of boots, they tend to use different heel labels on all their designs, and quite often they are made from metal, this is a good indicator of the genuine article. It’s really came down to the quality of the heel label, check the condition of the writing, if its good quality, your on to a winner.

With regards to labels hanging from the boot, for instance if you are buying from ebay, and see labels pinned to the boots, this is definitely a fake, because the genuine boots come with nothing pinned to them at all, there will be an insert in the box, but nothing pinned to the boot.

Fur

The fur that you will find in a nice genuine ugg australia boot, is real sheepskin fur. It’s natural, and there for feels nice and rough and course and warm. Fake boots tend to be synthetic fur, and its nice and perfect and clearly manufactured.

The real sheepskin makes for a more imperfect feel, because after all, its a natural thing. It’s not been mass produced. If you seen the two together, you would clearly be able to see the difference. I think this is one of the best ways to tell whether it is fake or not. Also, often the fake boots smell of the dye, that has been used to dye the fur. Something that obviously does not happen with the natural fur of the genuine product.

As Deckers bring out more and more designs its hard to say to look for specific colours etc, as you don’t know if they have actually decided to bring out this design in this colour, but I have often found that the fake boots have fur in colours that UGG don’t even make, so this should start the alarm bells ringing straight away.
